Samsung Continues Dominance in US Home Appliance Market Despite Competition

Samsung Electronics has once again secured its position as the leading brand in the US home appliance market for an eighth consecutive year, according to industry data. The company’s strong sales of key household products, including refrigerators and washers, contributed to its success.

Market tracker TraQline revealed that Samsung accounted for 20.9 percent of the market share for home appliances in the US in 2023. Its closest competitor, LG Electronics, followed closely behind with an 18.8 percent market share. GE Appliances and Whirlpool held 17.6 percent and 15.1 percent of the market, respectively.

In terms of units sold, Samsung also claimed the top spot with 18.6 percent, while GE came in second with 17.4 percent. LG and Whirlpool both secured a 16.4 percent share of the market.

The data further highlighted that 32 percent of American consumers preferred Samsung when considering home appliance purchases, while 29 percent chose LG. These two South Korean tech giants have consistently dominated the US home appliance market.

However, in comparison to the previous year, the market shares of both Samsung and LG experienced a slight decline. This can be attributed to the growing efforts of their competitors to establish a stronger presence in the US market.

To strengthen its position, Samsung plans to introduce a range of home appliance products and services with enhanced connectivity and usability through artificial intelligence. The company recently unveiled its latest lineup of Bespoke AI products, including washer-dryer combos, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners, which offer advanced AI capabilities and seamless connectivity.

In a press conference, Samsung CEO and Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee revealed the company’s intent to release the Bespoke Slide-in Range with AI Home in the US. This multifunctional induction range is designed to cater to the diverse needs of American consumers.

As part of its marketing strategy, Samsung launched an outdoor advertising campaign in New York’s Times Square. The campaign features a video that showcases the innovative features of the new Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator with the AI Family Hub.

Among its impressive product range, the Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator stands out for its AI capabilities trained on 1 million food images. It assists users in managing the freshness of ingredients by monitoring best-by dates and sending timely notifications.

Furthermore, the Bespoke AI Combo, an all-in-one washer-dryer product, employs AI to detect laundry specifics such as weight, type, and salinity, ensuring optimal washing and drying results. Samsung’s camera-installed Bespoke AI steam robot vacuum cleaner has also been trained on 1.7 million objects to efficiently navigate and clean different floor types.

Samsung’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction continues to position it as a leader in the US home appliance market. With its focus on AI-powered solutions, the company aims to provide consumers with enhanced connectivity and convenience in their everyday lives.
