Sony has released a new version 3.0 firmware for their digital cinema flagship, the Sony VENICE 2. This update introduces several enhancements to the camera, including a new 33.333fps mode to prevent flicker in certain scenes and improved high frame rate capabilities of up to 90fps when using 2x anamorphic lenses.
One of the standout features of the firmware update is its focus on improving the color fidelity of „In-Camera VFX” for virtual production stages. It allows filmmakers to blend standard production lighting with LED volumes, resulting in more accurate color reproduction of human skin tones. By adjusting the color temperature of the LED wall and the mixing ratio of the LED wall lighting and actual lighting, filmmakers can achieve a seamless integration of real and virtual elements.
In addition to virtual production support, the new firmware also enhances the functionality of the VENICE 2 for multi-camera usage at live events. Filmmakers now have more flexibility in controlling the camera’s white balance function and shutter function from a remote control unit, such as the RM-B170. They can also apply looks and user 3D LUTs to various video outputs, giving them greater control over the visual aesthetics of their footage.
