Since the return of the Honor brand to India in September 2023, the company has launched two devices, Honor 90 and Honor X9b, both running on the Android 13-based Magic OS 7.1 and Magic OS 7.2. The CEO of the brand has confirmed that Honor 90 and Honor X9b will soon receive another important operating system update based on Android 14 – Magic OS 8.0 – in India.
CEO of Honor India, Madhav Sheth, stated in an interview with The Mobile Indian that Honor 90 and Honor X9b will receive the Magic OS 8.0 update based on Android 14 in India in the second quarter of 2024. Sheth also confirmed that the video call feature on Honor 90 is available in the system but has not been activated yet.
“We want to ensure that users receive stable and secure updates at the same time. Currently, we need to make sure that the updates being released comply with the regulations for enhancing user privacy,” said Sheth. In comparison, Honor 90 is expected to receive this update in March in China.
Compared to the competition, most brands have already released Android 14-based updates for their respective devices in the same price category as Honor 90, such as iQOO Neo 7 Pro and Nothing Phone (2). However, we agree with the brand that the update should not be rushed and user privacy and security should be maintained.
Magic OS 8.0 includes MagicLM, Honor’s own large-scale AI language model that operates at the platform level. Optimized through collaboration between Honor and Qualcomm, the seven-billion-parameter MagicLM performs smoothly and efficiently on the Snapdragon 8 Gen3, contributing to a more personalized, intuitive, and secure user experience.
Along with MagicOS 8.0, Honor has also introduced Magic Portal, a shortcut recommendation feature based on intentions, which allows users to seamlessly switch and use services between apps and devices with a simple swipe. To protect privacy and security, MagicOS 8.0 introduces the system’s parallel mode, Parallel Spaces, and adds smartphone bar to the list of supported devices. Images and files can also be loaded into the private space using Magic Portal.
