Google Messages wkrótce wprowadzi możliwości edycji wysłanych wiadomości

According to a well-known informant, Google Messages will soon allow users to edit sent messages. AssembleDebug shared information on X that during testing of the latest beta version of Google Messages, they were able to enable the editing feature by activating certain hidden settings. Based on their practical experience, this feature seems to work very similarly to how most other communication apps operate.

To activate the editing feature, users must press and hold the sent message with their finger, and then select the pencil icon. This is similar to editing messages in WhatsApp, which makes sense as it is easy to understand and use.

Editing messages that have already been sent is a standard feature in many top communication apps. However, Google has not offered this capability until now, making it more akin to basic SMS messages. However, signals emerged in December 2023 that Google intends to address this issue.

But it appears that Google has implemented a time limit that determines when a message can be edited. According to information posted by AssembleDebug on TheSpAndroid, users will have thirty minutes from sending the message to make changes, which is twice as long as WhatsApp allows.

Google will also store the edited message history, which the recipient will be able to view. However, it seems that work on this functionality has not yet been completed, as AssembleDebug noticed some issues when using it. They observed that edited messages appeared as separate texts in group RCS conversations.

Moreover, editing a sent message in Google Messages will require enabling the Edit by Both Sides option. AssembleDebug predicts that the feature will likely be rolled out at the end of February or at the beginning of next month.

The message editing feature is simple but useful. However, including version history may cause some discomfort and be less significant.

This is not the only change coming to Google Messages. Google plans to introduce the ability to react to messages through double-clicking and integration with an artificial intelligence system named Gemini AI. We can expect these features to be introduced during MWC this month, but we won’t know if they will improve the service until we can test them ourselves.
