Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 16: Rewolucyjne urządzenie z rozkładanym ekranem

Lenovo continues its mission to make laptops with foldable screens more popular and common in the market. Their original X1 Fold was still imperfect, but it proved that this concept can work. Now, Lenovo is back with the ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 Gen 1, which is larger and better in many ways.

The X1 Fold 16 increases the screen size from 13.3 to 16.3 inches, replaces the Intel Lakefield processor with a faster Alder Lake chip, and has a more attractive design with narrower bezels. Add a standard Bluetooth keyboard with a stand and stylus, and Lenovo has a true winner.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 impresses with its build quality, starting from the metal hinge to the rubberized Lenovo and ThinkPad X1 logos on the external casing. The overall user experience of the X1 Fold resembles more of a hardcover book than a computer (although one that weighs 1.31 kg).

The breakthrough moment comes when we open the X1 Fold 16, revealing the huge 16.3-inch OLED screen. The first thing we notice compared to the original version is the significant reduction in bezels. They now measure just 7/8 inch around the screen, making the tablet appear edge-to-edge. However, smaller bezels mean less space to grip when using the device.

The X1 Fold 16 is equipped with two Thunderbolt 4 ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port. Each of these ports can charge the device, making it convenient to use in different positions. Additionally, on one side of the tablet, there are power and volume buttons, microphone jacks, and speakers.

During testing, I most often used the X1 Fold 16 as a tablet, with the screen fully unfolded. Unfortunately, this didn’t provide much comfort as the tablet weighs almost 1.5 kg and is quite large. Therefore, I used it on a desk or on my lap.

Another useful mode that I found is the laptop mode. In this case, you need to place the included Bluetooth keyboard on the bottom part of the screen in a vertical orientation (the keyboard is held in place by magnets). This automatically turns off the bottom part of the screen and dedicates the top part as the display. The resolution is effectively reduced, but the device transforms into a fully functional laptop.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 weighs 1.31 kg, making it comparable to other 16-inch ultraportable laptops. However, when combined with the keyboard, the total weight of the device is 1.94 kg. When folded, the tablet measures 176.2 x 276.2 x 17.4 mm, and when unfolded, it measures 345.7 x 276.2 x 8.6 mm.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 features an Intel Core i7-1250U processor, 16 GB LPDDR5-5200 memory, and a 512 GB SSD. The Alder Lake 8th generation processor provides a significant improvement in performance compared to the original X1 Fold.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 is a groundbreaking device that showcases the direction in which the future of laptops is heading. Despite a few drawbacks such as a high price and instability in tablet mode, the X1 Fold 16 is an important step in the development of foldable screen technology.
