Talking with Ahmed Musa: Let’s Stop the Hate Towards Alex Iwobi

Ahmed Musa, captain of the Nigerian national team, was unfazed by the result of the final match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Instead, he focused on an important message directed towards the fans of the Super Eagles. Musa appealed to the fans to stop persecuting his teammate Alex Iwobi at all costs.

In his recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Musa highlighted the harmfulness of cyberbullying and the crime of online harassment. He said, “Cyberbullying is not just a violation of decency but also a serious offense. It is hypocritical to claim that football unites us while engaging in such behavior.”

The captain emphasized that losing a match is tough, but directing hate towards only one player on the team is unfair and unjust. He pointed out that we win as a team and lose as a team. Musa added that Iwobi gave his all on the field, just like every other member of our team.

Recent defeats of the Super Eagles prompted Iwobi to speak out. Faced with accusatory remarks from fans, he decided to remove all photos from his Instagram profile. The only remaining post was a short video. Additionally, the comments were disabled to prevent further hate.

We should all learn to respect others, both on the field and online. Let’s support our favorite players regardless of the match outcome. Remember, a team achieves success together, and hate never leads to victory.
