Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 Face Display Issues as Sales Temporarily Halted

Apple Watch users were left frustrated after encountering touch-related problems with the Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models. As a result, Apple has temporarily ceased the sale of these particular models in the United States due to an ongoing patent dispute. The company has since acknowledged the display issues and is taking steps to investigate and address the reported problems.

According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, numerous customers have voiced concerns regarding their Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2’s display functionality. Termed as “ghost touches” by affected users, these problems involve erratic screen movements and unusual behavior without any user interaction. Notably, this issue has even led to unintended phone calls and prevented users from entering their device’s passcode.

To combat the issue, Apple advises customers to regularly update their Apple Watch’s software, with hopes that a future watchOS update will ultimately resolve the display problems. However, the company has not disclosed the full extent of the issue nor provided a timeline for a potential solution. It remains unclear whether the problem stems from faulty hardware.

In the interim, Apple has instructed its technicians not to repair affected Apple Watch models, instead recommending a force restart as a temporary fix. Users experiencing display issues can force restart their device by simultaneously holding down the Digital Crown and the side button for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Furthermore, in a separate development, Apple faced another setback as it had to temporarily disable the blood oxygen health feature on the Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 due to a patent dispute in the US. Although the watches still display the blood oxygen icon, attempting to access the feature prompts a message stating, “The Blood Oxygen app is no longer available. Learn more in the Health app on your iPhone.” The Health app now lists blood oxygen as “unavailable” and directs users to a support article on the Apple website for more information.

As Apple continues to investigate these issues, users eagerly await a resolution that will restore the full functionality of their Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 models.
