Huawei Umiejętności Przedsiębiorczości Cyfrowej dla Kobiet

On Monday, February 12, 2024, Huawei Kenya, a technology company, trained 100 women from various savings groups in Nairobi on digital and entrepreneurial skills to enable them to take advantage of upcoming digital opportunities. The beneficiaries will also share their skills and information with other women in their savings groups. The training was conducted by Huawei Kenya in collaboration with Computers for Schools Kenya and Mama Doing Good.

The pilot training on digital skills for women, which took place on February 6 and 7, 2024, focused on teaching entrepreneurship to help women develop their businesses and increase their income. The training provided practical skills and demonstrated how to navigate various social media platforms to promote business products and services, ensure online safety, and minimize the risk of fraud.

Maureen Mwaniki, Director of Public Affairs at Huawei Kenya, confirmed Huawei Kenya’s commitment as a technological leader to provide everyone with training in basic digital skills that can help improve daily operations. “This digital training aligns with ongoing government efforts to digitize services and government payments through the e-citizen platform, which facilitates access to services,” the company said in a statement.

The Kenyan government has an ambitious goal of reaching 20 million Kenyans with digital skills in the next ten years, requiring the involvement of multiple stakeholders and highly targeted programs to meet the needs of Kenyans. This comes at a time when women in Kenya are closing the gender gap in mobile internet usage. According to the latest Mobile Gender Gap Report 2023 published by the international association of mobile network operators, GSMA, 59 percent of men in Kenya use mobile internet, a number that has stabilized compared to the previous year, while the percentage of women has increased from 36 to 39 percent.
