AJ Odudu, co-host of Celebrity Big Brother on ITV, found herself in a unique situation during the latest episode of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. Odudu was the face of Google Pixel phones in the years 2022-2023, which sparked controversy due to BBC’s anti-advertising regulations.
During the episode, Odudu handed her phone to McIntyre for the “Send to All” game. During their conversation, McIntyre mentioned that it wasn’t an Apple phone. Odudu confirmed it was a Google Pixel and then shared her experiences with iPhones, which she had used before. She highlighted that she had dropped and cracked her iPhones multiple times, whereas she praised the Google Pixel for being more durable.
The viewers’ reaction to this situation was mixed. Many noticed that Odudu was essentially promoting Google products on BBC, which goes against the station’s regulations. Internet users expressed surprise and curiosity about how BBC would respond to the situation.
BBC’s anti-advertising regulations are clear – regardless of the format, product promotion on their channel is prohibited. Therefore, Odudu’s presence on Big Show, where she presented the Google Pixel phone, might violate these rules.
Representatives from BBC have been asked for comment on the matter but have not yet provided any information.
The Count, the PR department’s CEO at Google, said, “We are proud of our collaboration with AJ Odudu in the years 2022-2023. If there are any issues with BBC regulations, we are ready to engage in discussions. Our Google Pixel phones are highly regarded by customers, offering advanced features.”
