Nowa technologia stosowana przez White Settlement PD w celu unikania niebezpiecznych pościgów policyjnych

White Settlement – Police Chief Chris Cook of White Settlement is aware that when it comes to apprehending criminals or recovering stolen vehicles, officers sometimes have no choice but to engage in pursuits that often end tragically. “This is a perfect opportunity to showcase this technology,” he said.

The technology he is referring to is called StarChase. It is essentially a GPS-equipped dart mechanism. Mounted on the front of police cars, the laser helps officers aim, and the magnet helps attach the tracking device after it is shot. Once tagged, dispatchers can track the suspect’s movements, including speed, direction, and vehicle stops. It is meant to be an alternative to pursuits that aims to slow down the fleeing vehicle.

“They will stop running red lights and ignoring stop signs because they think they are getting away, and that’s perfect. We want people to be safe,” Cook said. Cook reveals that since a police pursuit in Irving on Thursday ended in a fiery crash in downtown Dallas, four local agencies have expressed interest in implementing StarChase technology, including one agency in Florida. Hopefully, this technology will be widely adopted. Currently, they are the only department in Texas that knows how to utilize StarChase.
