„Przemysłowcy i działkowcy” – nowa wystawa fotografii dokumentuje historię Dublin Docklands

The photographic exhibition titled “Industrialists and Allotment Holders” is currently being showcased in the center of Dublin Docklands. The exhibition features photographs by renowned photographer Jeanette Lowe, old photographs of the local community, and a collection of 6000 photographs gathered by the Dublin Dock Workers Preservation Society.

The purpose of the exhibition is to collect and present not only the past, but also the changes that have occurred over the years in the Docklands area. In the past, many residents made a living as dock workers, but many men worked as industrialists, and women worked in factories and mills in the northern and southern docks. Until the early 1970s, women often had to stop working when they got married.

Jeanette Lowe, the author of the selected collection of photographs, states that the exhibition is a continuation of her work, focusing on the people from the port district and urban housing estates. She adds that it is important to tell the stories of women who are often forgotten. The photographs document, among other things, the factory work of women, who often started working at a young age.

The exhibition takes place in the 1SJRQ building on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin’s South Docks and will run until February 22nd. Its aim is to allow visitors to delve into the history of the Docklands and reflect on the lives of the people who lived and worked there. The exhibition is an excellent opportunity to understand how much this area has changed over the years and how much impact it has had on the lives of its residents.

It is worth visiting this unique exhibition, which creatively showcases the history of the Docklands and its community. Examining the past and the present provides an excellent opportunity to understand the place and role of this area in Dublin.
