The electric vehicles sector in Lansing will see the creation of new jobs thanks to a $2.6 billion investment. Ultium Cells, a joint venture between General Motors and LG Electronics, plans to hire 1,700 people to work at their newly established manufacturing plant.

On Wednesday, a job presentation was held at Ultium Cells, attended by Jacob Chybowski, a resident of Lansing. He was seeking opportunities for growth in the industry, having previous experience in production. Ultium Cells specializes in the production of batteries for electric vehicles.

Ultium Cells’ investment in the electric vehicle industry in Lansing will total $2.6 billion. Grace Griffin, the plant manager, says that once the facility is completed, 1,700 people will be employed to work on the production line. Kenya Brooks, the recruitment manager at Ultium Cells, adds that the company provides opportunities for individuals without higher education to enter the workforce and develop professionally.

Although Ultium Cells plans to start operations within the next 20-25 years, they are already actively seeking employees and engaging with the local community. The company aims to increase awareness of its presence so that all residents have a chance to benefit from potential job offers.
