HMD Global zapowiada swoją własną linię smartfonów pod marką HMD

HMD Global, the company that has been producing smartphones under the Nokia brand for the past seven years, will soon introduce its own line of devices under the HMD brand. This move is expected to mark the end of smartphones under the Nokia brand. HMD is currently teasing some hints about its upcoming product portfolio, suggesting what to expect from HMD phones.

One significant change is the rebranding of the user identifier X and the website address of service X. The first smartphone under the HMD brand is set to debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona. The Nokia.com/phones website now redirects to HMD.com. Its identifier X has been changed to @HMDglobal instead of @nokiamobile, signaling the company’s transition.

On the official HMD GSM website, it is stated that the company is creating the original HMD brand while also introducing phones from new partnerships. “We are still manufacturers of Nokia smartphones and classic Nokia phones, but we are warming up to deliver even more, including original HMD devices and phones from new partnerships,” reads the website.

The portfolio will include smartphones, tablets, and feature phones. In a teaser video released on the HMD Global website, the name “Human Mobile Devices” is emphasized, seen below the HMD abbreviation. It is highlighted that HMD is the “manufacturer of Nokia phones.”

HMD Global was founded in 2016 after Microsoft sold the rights to the Nokia brand for ten years. The first phone under the HMD Global brand, Nokia 6, was introduced to the market in 2017. Details about the name of the first HMD smartphone and its release date are currently unknown.

According to leaks, the phone has a codename N159V and features a dual front-facing camera, with the main sensor having 108 megapixels and optical image stabilization (OIS). It is expected to come in black and cyan colors with plastic frames. It is planned to be launched during the MWC event in Barcelona, which will take place in the last week of February. The HMD brand will coexist alongside Nokia phones.
