BYD Atto3: A Stylish and Accomplished Electric Cruiser SUV

BHPian shankar.balan recently had the opportunity to test drive the BYD Atto3, and he shared some interesting insights. While the Atto3 offers a comfortable ride, the chassis may not feel as “taut” as some other electric vehicles. It may not be a “driver’s car,” but it is a well-appointed and spacious cruiser SUV Coupe.

One of the standout features of the Atto3 is its impressive range. With a 50KW Blade battery, it has a real-world proven range of 450 kilometers on a single charge. This excellent range could play a significant role in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.

The Atto3 boasts a powerful electric motor that delivers 200bhp and 310Nm of torque. Despite its weight of 1700-1800kgs, the car feels nimble and stable at high speeds. Equipped with ventilated front discs, the braking system ensures reliable performance.

In terms of size, the Atto3 is similar to popular SUVs like the Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta. It offers generous proportions, short overhangs, and acceptable approach and departure angles for Indian roads. While the suspension may not be as firm as some competitors, such as the Kona or Ioniq5, the BYD Atto3 outperforms the MG ZS EV.

Inside the Atto3, you’ll find a range of high-tech features and a well-designed cabin. The car offers various gizmos and a large central screen that can be adjusted for either landscape or portrait view. However, some may find these features overwhelming and prefer a simpler interface.

The BYD Atto3 excels in terms of build quality and overall refinement. With its heavy metal gauge and attention to detail, it can be compared to luxury vehicles from brands like Audi. The insulation from outside noise is excellent, providing a serene driving experience.

When it comes to charging capabilities, the Atto3 impresses with its fast DC charging time of 50 minutes to go from 10% to 80% battery capacity. AC overnight charging takes approximately 9 hours. The car also offers ample storage space, including a large boot and the option to add additional storage in the front.

With a price of around 36 lakhs on the road in Bangalore, the BYD Atto3 positions itself as a top-class electric vehicle. However, individual preferences should be taken into account when considering if the Atto3 is the right fit for potential buyers.
