Apple eliminates the need for browser play on iPhones for cloud gaming apps

Apple has recently updated its policy regarding hosting apps that offer cloud game streaming services, bringing good news for iPhone users who enjoy playing Xbox Game Pass. Previously, playing Game Pass on an iPhone required using a browser, which, although not terribly inconvenient, was not the most intuitive method.

However, Apple’s updated policy now allows for a different approach. According to a developer update from Apple, developers can now submit a single app that enables users to stream the entire catalog of games offered. This means that dedicated apps for cloud streaming services, including Game Pass and Nvidia’s GeForce Now, can now offer direct cloud streaming within the app. Having a dedicated app adds a level of convenience that was previously missing.

Although the update has yet to be implemented for Game Pass, there is no reason for Xbox not to introduce it. Game Pass introduced cloud gaming for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in 2020, albeit still in beta for Windows and mobile users. Cloud gaming is a convenient way to quickly access games, although a reliable internet connection is necessary and it may not work well for visually demanding games.

By eliminating the need for browser play, Apple’s policy update brings a new level of convenience to iPhone users who enjoy cloud gaming. With dedicated apps for streaming services, it will be easier than ever to access and enjoy a wide range of games on the go.
