According to the latest report from research firm Canalys, Apple has claimed the top position in the Chinese smartphone market in terms of annual shipments in 2023, with a 1% increase in market share, reaching a total of 51.8 million units.
Vivo, Oppo, and Honor were in close competition, with annual shipments of 44.5 million, 43.9 million, and 43.6 million units respectively, each holding a 16% market share. Xiaomi secured the fifth spot in the Chinese smartphone market with a 13% market share.
Huawei ranked sixth with a 12% market share in 2023, marking a growth from 8% in 2022, signifying a 48% year-on-year increase.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the Chinese smartphone market reversed its decline, reaching a total shipment of 73.9 million units, which was only a 1% decrease compared to the previous year.
In the fourth quarter, Apple claimed the top position, shipping 17.5 million units. With the availability of new iPhone 15 models, the company experienced a 6% year-on-year growth in shipments.
Huawei maintained its fourth-place position, selling 10.4 million units in the fourth quarter, representing a 47% year-on-year increase.
Lucas Zhong, an analyst at Canalys, said, “Huawei performed exceptionally well this quarter, occupying a spot in the top five on the Chinese smartphone market after ten quarters.”
The Huawei Mate 60 Pro, equipped with innovative features like the Kirin chipset and satellite connectivity, became a leading model driving Huawei’s shipment growth.
Amber Liu, a research manager, stated, “We expect to see a moderate recovery in the Chinese smartphone market in 2024, supported by channel distribution benefits and exciting new products.”
