Google is introducing a new iteration of its flagship smartphone, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The latest addition to the color palette is a chic and refreshing shade of mint green. This announcement has been circulating by Google in recent days. Mint Green is more subdued compared to the vibrant blue shade found in the 8 Pro version but adds a refreshing touch to the standard Pixel 8 lineup.
For Pixel enthusiasts interested in the smaller model, this is the first opportunity to break away from the conventional black, sand, and pink colors that have dominated since the phone’s release in October. However, mint green is only available with the base 128 GB storage option for both models. Those who need more space will have to stick with the classic colors.
The color mint green has been described as “inspired by a vibrant hue found in nature” and seems to be a color that invites a state of energizing tranquility. Mint is Google’s bold attempt to bring boldness, focus, and optimism into the new year. Promotional materials suggest that it is a color for those who seek a “fresher version of themselves.” The Google design team seems confident in their description, but it remains to be seen how consumers will embrace this fresh, minty novelty in the Pixel family.
Google Pixel 8 offers stunning performance thanks to the latest Tensor G3 chip. It is backed by UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring fast file access. When it comes to photography, the Pixel 8 does not disappoint. It features a 50-megapixel main camera with advanced Octa-PD mode, delivering excellent results in low-light conditions. Additionally, it offers an 8x digital zoom Super-Res for capturing distant objects. There is also a 12-megapixel camera with autofocus and macro capabilities for detailed close-ups. For selfies and video calls, there is a front-facing 10.5-megapixel camera.
Under the hood, the Pixel 8 houses a 4575mAh battery that is sufficient for a full day’s use. It supports 27W wired fast charging and 18W wireless charging, although it should be noted that a charger is not included in the sales package.
The Pixel 8 Pro features a QHD+ OLED display with a 6.7-inch diagonal, providing impressive image quality, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 makes it exceptionally durable. It has a 10.5-megapixel front camera for selfies and three powerful rear cameras: a 50-megapixel main camera with phase detection autofocus and image stabilization, a new 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 48-megapixel camera with an impressive 5x zoom and a 30x Super-Res digital zoom. The phone’s design combines glass and metal, reminiscent of the previous Pixel 7 Pro model.
Both models are powered by the same Google Tensor G3 chip. The Pixel 8 Pro has a 5050mAh battery, supporting 30W wired charging and 23W wireless charging, although a charger is not included.
Other notable features include the Titan security chip, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal memory, providing smooth multitasking and ample storage space. The phone also features a skin temperature monitor and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner placed under the display. A unique feature is the Melexis MLX90632 skin temperature sensor located near the cameras. Unlike other sensors, it is dedicated solely to precise temperature readings and does not affect the quality of photographs. This feature may have various practical applications beyond the traditional functions of a smartphone.
