Pocketpair, Inc. Rises to Fame with Controversial Game “Palworld”

Pocketpair, Inc., a Japanese game development company, released the game “Palworld” on early access last Thursday, which has already become a huge sensation but has also attracted some controversy.

The game, branded as “Pokemons with guns,” is set in an open world inhabited by animal-like creatures called “Pals.” Players fight and capture these creatures to use them for base building, exploration, and battles.

According to IGN, within the first four days of early access, the game sold 6 million copies. But that’s not all, as just a few days after its release, “Palworld” became the second most popular game on the Steam platform.

This morning, the game achieved incredible results – 1,864,421 players simultaneously, surpassing the record held by Valve’s own game “Counter-Strike” and becoming the second most popular game in the history of Steam.

It only falls behind “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” (known as PUBG), which reached its peak of 3,257,248 players in 2018, at a time when battle royale games were dominating.

“Palworld” is unlikely to reach such high levels of success but certainly has the potential to grow even more. The release has also been met with controversy – Pocketpair reportedly received death threats due to accusations of copying Pokemon.

The game is currently available on the Steam platform, Windows, and Xbox through Game Pass.
