Apple Music vs. Spotify: Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re unsure about whether to choose Apple Music or Spotify, both being popular music streaming services, there are a few factors to consider. Apple Music is favored by many for its seamless integration with other Apple devices and its high-quality streaming. However, Spotify has had a feature that Apple Music lacked for a long time: collaborative playlists.

Collaborative playlists are a fun and interactive way to create music lists with friends and family. Previously, Apple Music users were unable to collaborate on playlists like their Spotify counterparts. But now, with the release of iOS 17.3, Apple Music has finally introduced this sought-after feature.

To create a collaborative playlist in Apple Music, simply open the app, create a new playlist, or access an existing one. In the top-right corner of the screen, you’ll find a new icon with a person and a plus sign. This button allows you to make your playlist collaborative. Tap on it, and a pop-up will appear. Hit “Start Collaborating” to enable others with the playlist link to edit and reorder songs. You can also choose to approve collaborators before they can make changes.

Once your playlist is collaborative, you can share it with others by copying the Apple Music playlist link or using the share sheet to send it via text, email, or AirDrop. The playlist will have a new icon indicating that it is collaborative, and each song will have a user icon next to it, showing who added it.

When playing a song from a collaborative playlist in full-screen mode, you’ll see the name of the person who added the song. You can even react to songs with emojis, just like in the Messages app. This adds a personalized touch to the playlist.

If you ever need to manage your collaborative playlist, you can tap the icon again to copy the playlist link, display a QR code for easy scanning, approve or deny collaborators, and disable collaboration.

With this new feature, Apple Music has bridged the gap and now offers a compelling reason to choose their service over Spotify. So, if collaborative playlists are important to you, Apple Music may be your preferred option.
