Redukcje w Riot Games i zamknięcie Riot Forge

Announcements of layoffs in the gaming industry are unfortunately not uncommon. This time, it has also affected Riot Games, the creators of the popular game League of Legends. The scale of the reductions is significant – 530 people, or 11% of the workforce, will be laid off.

According to the CEO of the studio, Dylan Jadeja, the reason for the layoffs is the lack of a clearly defined vision for Riot Games and too many projects that the team has taken on recently. While focusing on the development of their most important games, such as League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and Wild Rift, the studio has decided to close Riot Forge. Riot Forge was the division responsible for publishing single-player games developed by other studios. Despite delivering several outstanding productions, such as Ruined King: A League of Legends Story and Convergence, the studio has decided to discontinue this initiative.

However, it is worth noting that Riot Games is not completely closing itself off to single-player games or collaboration with other developers. If the right project comes along, the studio is open to collaboration. However, as the CEO assures, they would like it to have an entirely new character.

For those directly affected by the decision to reduce employment, Riot Games has pledged financial support, including six months of compensation, bonuses, and assistance in finding new jobs.

It is also worth mentioning that some of the laid-off employees may find new employment opportunities at another Polish game studio, CD Projekt RED. Quest director Paweł Sasko announced that various teams at CDPR are currently seeking employees for many positions.

Although the news of job reductions and the closure of Riot Forge is sad, fans can still hold onto hope for the continued development of the studio’s most important games and the opportunity to enjoy more outstanding titles.
