Pokémon z bronią: Mod Palworld w niepewnej sytuacji po interwencji Nintendo

Nintendo has taken action to block a mod for the game Palworld that would give the label “Pokémon with weapons” a much more literal meaning. If you were hoping to play a survival and monster training game created by Pocketpair, in which the long-time protagonist of Pokémon, Ash Ketchum, catches and subdues Game Freak monsters, you may need to lower your expectations as the mod is now in a more uncertain situation.

The mod was unveiled yesterday, January 22, by one of its creators, a YouTuber known as ToastedShoes, who released a short clip showcasing the mod and a full video that appeared on the channel today, January 23. However, the teaser met with Nintendo’s withdrawal of permission to share it on platform X (formerly Twitter). As a result, the mod will not be publicly released according to previous plans, as ToastedShoes wants to “proceed cautiously for a while.”

The video showcasing the mod demonstrates how Ash fights, captures, and subdues various Pokémon to build his fortresses, as well as how he confronts the animated antagonist Jessie during one of the boss battles. While the mod is obviously based on the original game, it is also one of the better examples of why Palworld’s way of differentiating itself from Pokémon doesn’t appeal to me. Weapons have always been a catchy, meme-worthy addition that sets Palworld apart, but at the same time, it signals certain darker mechanics and moods that are not what I seek in a monster training game. But everyone has their preferences.

It has been noted that the mod includes a lot of dialogue for Ash, and although they sound very similar to the version performed by actress Sarah Natochenny, according to ToastedShoes, they are not taken from actual anime episodes. In a statement to Kotaku, ToastedShoes said that the dialogue for Ash was recorded by a voice actor, not an AI program imitating Natochenny’s voice, but the actor himself wished to remain anonymous.

While the mod, which uses Pokémon characters, may be on Nintendo’s radar, Pocketpair believes that the game itself is safe from Mario’s legal team because it does not directly use any copyrighted characters.
