Palworld Developer Releases Update to Address Player Issues

Palworld developer Pocketpair has recently released an update for the Xbox and Windows PC version of the game to address certain player concerns. The highly acclaimed survival and crafting title, often likened to “Pokémon with guns,” was launched in early access on January 19. While it has been successful on Steam, the Xbox version has faced some discrepancies.

One significant difference between the two versions is the availability of dedicated servers. On Steam, Palworld players can create and join dedicated servers, allowing gameplay with up to 32 players and the ability to form guilds. However, Xbox and Windows PC players are limited to online co-op with only 2-4 players, as they cannot create or join dedicated servers. Crossplay between Xbox and Steam is also not currently supported.

Contrary to speculation that the Xbox build might be outdated, Pocketpair clarified that both versions will remain distinct until crossplay is enabled. The developer cited the rigorous certification process imposed by Microsoft as the reason for this disparity. While updates can be quickly implemented on Steam, they face delays on Xbox due to the certification process.

Pocketpair has yet to provide a thorough explanation regarding the absence of dedicated servers on Xbox and Windows PC. Although the developer expressed a desire to incorporate dedicated servers on Xbox, it emphasized the current challenges in negotiating this feature. This statement raises questions, as other games on Xbox do offer dedicated servers. IGN has reached out to Pocketpair for comment but has not received a response at this time.

While Palworld has seen tremendous success, it has not been without controversy. Pocketpair has disclosed that its staff members have received death threats amidst allegations of the game being a Pokémon “rip-off.” Additionally, Nintendo swiftly intervened to remove a striking Pokémon mod. Furthermore, the game’s servers have struggled to handle the massive influx of players during the launch period.
