The introduction of the next generation Ford Mustang is planned for later this year in North America. However, our spy photographers have already managed to capture testing of the new body variant, the California Special Coupe, during a test drive. This version is a variation of the convertible model and was presented just a month after the global premiere of the S650-series Mustang.
The new variation we captured in the photos features the same blue details and “GT/CS” emblem on the grille, as well as black stickers inspired by the same model. However, we do not see the optional two-tone blue wheels on it, which will likely be included in the customer version. Nevertheless, the lack of camouflage on the car indicates that they will be available soon.
The new California Special model differs in visual elements in the cabin, such as blue stitching contrasting with the black leather seat upholstery, dashboard, gear shifter, and floor mats. The manufacturer has not made any changes to the powertrain or chassis of the California Special model, except for unique equipment elements. This model will still be equipped with a 5-liter V8 engine generating 358 kW of power and 563 Nm of torque, which powers the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Unfortunately, there are no plans to introduce the California Special model to the Australian market. In the past, we had the opportunity to see the previous version, although they were only available in limited quantities towards the end of the S550 period. This model served as a kind of farewell to the generation of Mustang that made this legendary sports car the most popular in the world.
Individuals looking for something more exclusive in this version of the car will have to opt for additional equipment from the Dark Horse package or choose external modifications such as the RTR Spec 2 package.
