Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Deluxe Edition Will Restrict New Game+ to Paying Players

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the highly anticipated game, is set to release in just a few days, and fans are eagerly looking forward to it. However, there is one major disappointment for players: New Game+ will only be available to those who purchase the game’s Deluxe edition.

This information came to light on the official Infinite Wealth website, where a digital edition comparison reveals that New Game+ is exclusive to the Deluxe edition. It seems that SEGA is deliberately concealing this fact, as it is not mentioned on the Steam or PlayStation Store platforms. This decision has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans, as most games include New Game+ as part of the base game.

The game was initially announced in June 2023 with a trailer and a release window. Like A Dragon follows the trend of offering different versions and price points. However, what sets it apart is the level of content it provides to players. The standard edition of Infinite Wealth comes with a price tag of $114.95 AUD. To access the full experience, players will need to pay an additional $23 AUD for the Deluxe edition, bringing the total to $137.95 AUD. Alternatively, the Ultimate edition is available for $179.95 AUD.

A concerned Reddit user reached out to SEGA’s customer support regarding this issue, and their response confirmed that New Game+ is indeed exclusive to the Deluxe edition.

The cost of games is steadily increasing, with PlayStation 5 games now exceeding $100 AUD. In 2022, Microsoft raised the price of their first-party next-gen games from $60 USD to $70 USD. Last year, the president of Capcom even stated that video games are not priced high enough. This trend of locking basic features, such as the ability to replay a game, behind an additional paywall of $23 AUD is disheartening, to say the least. Hopefully, this does not set a precedent for future game releases.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is scheduled to launch on January 26, 2024, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. Players should be aware of the limitations imposed on New Game+ access based on their edition of choice.
