Apple Vision Pro Launches Without Dedicated Netflix and YouTube Apps

The highly anticipated launch of Apple’s mixed reality (MR) headset, Vision Pro, will not include dedicated apps for two major streaming platforms, Netflix and YouTube. Instead, users will have to access these platforms through a web browser.

Similar to Netflix, YouTube has decided not to release a separate app for Vision Pro. Instead, users will need to visit the web browser version of YouTube to watch videos on the headset. A YouTube spokesperson stated that they will ensure a great user experience in Safari, without providing further details on the decision or future plans for support.

Netflix has also confirmed that they will not create a dedicated app for Vision Pro or modify their existing iPad version. Other companies, such as Meta-owned Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and WhatsApp, may also be delaying the release of compatible apps for the headset. Notable apps missing from Vision Pro include Bumble, Snapchat, Roku, YouTube Music, and Lyft.

However, there are several companies that will participate in the launch. The headset will come with twenty apps, including TikTok, Disney+, Max, Discovery+, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, and Peacock, offering a diverse range of entertainment options for users.

Vision Pro will be available for pre-order and launch in the US on February 2nd, with a starting price of $3,499 for the 256GB storage option. Apple has stated that the headset will be available at all US Apple Store locations and online.

While the absence of dedicated Netflix and YouTube apps may disappoint some users, the availability of other popular entertainment apps provides a wide array of content options for Vision Pro owners. The launch of this advanced headset is expected to generate interest and excitement among technology enthusiasts and consumers alike.
