CD Projekt Sells Over 5 Million Copies of “Cyberpunk 2077” Expansion

CD Projekt recently announced on social media that it sold over 5 million copies of its latest expansion for the game “Cyberpunk 2077” – “Phantom Liberty” – in the past year. The expansion was released at the end of September.

Recall that analysts, surveyed before the release, predicted that the sales of “Phantom Liberty” in 2023 would amount to between 3 and 4.5 million copies. At the end of November, the game producer announced that it had sold 4.3 million copies.

Unfortunately, the sales data was not well received by investors. At the beginning of the session, CD Projekt’s stock price fell by 3.7 percent, and currently, it is down by 3.3 percent. Currently, CD Projekt is the top declining company in the WIG 20 index.

Analyst from Trigon DM, Kacper Koproń, assesses the sales results of “Phantom Liberty” as neutral. He emphasizes that the market expected sales of around 5 million copies, so he doesn’t see any fundamental reasons for the stock decline. This could be related to the overall negative sentiment of investors towards large companies and global capital flows.

Koproń also speculates that the marketing campaign for CD Projekt’s next game may have a stronger impact on the company’s stock price, but he does not expect it to begin before the second half of this year. He also points out that the goal of CD Projekt’s incentive program for 2023-2026 is to achieve 2 billion Polish zlotys in profit, and the release of a new game in The Witcher universe should take place no later than 2026. More information on this can be expected in 2025 when investors will be more interested in CD Projekt’s activities.
