WordPad wkrótce zniknie z Windowsa 11, a Microsoft zachęca do korzystania z Worda

WordPad, which was a popular text editing application on the Windows system, will soon be removed from Windows 11 – according to the updated documentation of the system released in December. According to the information provided by Microsoft, they recommend the paid version of the Word program for editing complex files, and for TXT files – the built-in Notepad.

What does this mean for Windows 11 users? They must prepare for the fact that WordPad will soon disappear from the system and there will be no possibility of reinstalling it. Microsoft has confirmed that it is not continuing the development of this application and is condemning it to “death” by removing it from Windows 11.

This move by Microsoft may come as a surprise, but on the other hand, it was predictable. The built-in Notepad has recently received many updates to distance itself from its image as a simple TXT file editor, which has been known in the unchanged form in the Windows system for years. WordPad remained slightly in the shadow of Notepad. Furthermore, Microsoft also has an interest in promoting its paid office suite, which includes Word, which could result in limiting profits from “Office” sales.

So what instead of WordPad? Windows 11 users have several options to choose from. One option is to purchase the paid version of the Word program, as recommended by Microsoft. Alternatively, they can also use free office suites such as LibreOffice or OpenOffice. These software not only allow editing of DOC and RTF files, but also have tools similar to Excel and PowerPoint, enabling work with formats typical for Microsoft’s office suite.
