New Perspectives on the Development of the mObywatel Application

The mObywatel application, created by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, remains in the spotlight as the current minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, has decided to introduce several new features that are intended to bring significant convenience to the daily lives of Poles. One of the plans is the possibility of vehicle registration and scheduling doctor’s appointments.

What is the mObywatel application?

The mObywatel application is a digital wallet that every modern Pole should have installed on their smartphone. The program offers a wide range of important documents in digital form and allows for the handling of many official and everyday matters. Among the modules included in the mObywatel application are the digital ID card, mStudent/school ID, mRetirement/pensioner ID, mDriver’s license, and a list of received penalty points.

New features in the application

Minister Gawkowski plans to expand the list of documents and features in the application by adding, for example, the ID card for disabled individuals. Since July 14, 2023, the digital ID card (mDowód) is considered equivalent to the plastic document, as emphasized by the introduction of the mObywatel 2.0 application. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is dynamically developing its product, and new features in the application are appearing almost as quickly as mushrooms after rain. The new Minister of Finance assures that despite changes in the government, the pace of development will not slow down.

Examples of future features

In one of the interviews, Minister Gawkowski emphasized that as an exemplary user of this application, he intends to make it even more useful and enable the handling of most official matters with just a few clicks. As an example, he mentioned the ability to schedule doctor’s appointments through the National Health Fund (NFZ) and remotely register vehicles without the need to visit the office. He suggests that if today we can quickly make a bank transfer using a mobile banking application from different locations, then why can’t we perform other tasks remotely using our phones? This is precisely the vision of e-government and digital services that Minister Gawkowski intends to develop.

Continuation of good ideas

The minister also announces that he does not intend to abandon the projects of his predecessors and will continue to implement those that have been successful. For this reason, it is worth expecting the previously announced novelties that appeared during Janusz Cieszyński’s time.
