New Perspectives for Development of the mObywatel App

The mObywatel app, created by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, remains in the spotlight as the current minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, has decided to introduce several new features that are expected to significantly facilitate the daily lives of Poles. One of the plans is to allow vehicle registration and appointments with doctors.

What is the mObywatel app?

The mObywatel app is a digital wallet that every modern Polish citizen should have installed on their smartphone. The program offers a wide range of important documents in digital form and allows for handling many administrative and everyday matters. Among the modules included in the mObywatel app are the digital ID card, mSchool/Student ID, mRetirement/Pensioner ID, and mDriver’s License and a list of received penalty points.

New features in the app

Minister Gawkowski plans to expand the list of documents and functions in the app by adding, for example, a disabled person’s ID card. Since July 14, 2023, the digital ID card (mDowód) has been treated on par with the physical document, as emphasized by the introduction of the mObywatel 2.0 app. The Ministry of Digital Affairs is rapidly developing its product, and new features in the app are appearing almost as quickly as mushrooms after rain. The new Minister of Finance assures that despite changes in the government, the pace of development will not slow down.

Examples of future functions

In one of the interviews, Minister Gawkowski stressed that as an exemplary user of this app, he intends to make it even more useful and enable the handling of the majority of administrative matters with just a few clicks. As an example, he mentioned the possibility of scheduling doctor appointments through the National Health Fund (NFZ) and remotely registering vehicles without the need to visit an office. He suggests that if today we can quickly make a transfer through a banking app while being in different places, then why can’t we perform other tasks remotely using a phone? This is precisely the vision of e-government and digital services that Minister Gawkowski intends to develop.

Continuing good ideas

The minister also announces that he does not intend to abandon the projects of his predecessors and will continue the implementation of successful ones. Therefore, it is worth expecting the previously announced novelties that appeared during Janusz Cieszyński’s time.
