Changing Landscape of Gift-giving Customs in India in 2023

According to a report published by Ferns N Petals, a leading online gift store in India, the changing landscape of gift-giving customs in the country was examined in 2023. This year, Indians expressed their love for roses by purchasing an impressive quantity of 11.5 million stems from FNP. On average, 23 roses were sent every minute. The popularity of roses was closely followed by purple and blue orchids, white carnations, yellow gerberas, and white lilies. Flowers were not the only popular choice – cakes also gained significant recognition in gift preferences. FNP sold over 7 million cakes, resulting in an impressive rate of 11 cakes delivered per minute. Cities such as Patna, Ranchi, and Bhubaneshwar particularly enjoyed sweets, accounting for 40% of gifts in the form of cakes and chocolates. Interestingly, consumers showed a conscious shift towards more meaningful gifts. The category of gift hampers recorded a substantial growth of 60% compared to the previous year, with the most preferred hampers being those with healthy snacks and cosmetics. Furthermore, gift hampers with consciously chosen presents gained popularity, experiencing a 15% increase. They included sprouting plant saplings, upcycled pots, seed paper cards and bookmarks, fashion accessories made from recycled materials, and gifts made from salvaged metal. The report also revealed an intriguing correlation between consumer habits and smartphone models. iPhone owners spent an average of 1800 to 2000 RS on gifts, while Samsung and OnePlus users spent an average of 1500 RS. On the other hand, Redmi and Xiaomi phone owners spent a lower average of 1000 RS. These findings provide insights into the diverse ways in which Indians express their love and gratitude through gift-giving. From an abundance of roses to delicious cakes and a growing interest in sustainable and meaningful gifts, the year 2023 was truly a time of heartfelt gestures and thoughtful expressions of love.
