In the recent decision by the local planning authority, the installation of a telecommunication mast and base cabinets in Wednesfield has been approved. The proposed location is at the intersection of Linthouse Lane and Ridge Lane. The application was submitted by Cornerstone, a leading mobile infrastructure services company that manages over 20,000 locations throughout the United Kingdom.
The planner, Mr. Jobe Elwell, emphasized that the proposed location is the most suitable after considering alternative strategies such as mast sharing. The application indicates that other locations were considered but rejected, highlighting that the proposed site is the least harmful option available.
Although the construction of the mast and use of telecommunication equipment may impact the aesthetic value of the area, most public views of open fields will remain unobstructed. The local planning authorities have worked with the applicant to ensure development that improves the economic, social, and environmental conditions in this area.
According to Perry Williams Limited, representing Cornerstone, the new installation is necessary to provide access to 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies in the area. The existing location at the intersection of Linthouse Lane and Wood End Road cannot be upgraded to accommodate 5G, hence the need for a new location. After analyzing various options, the edge of the grassland on Linthouse Lane, across from the Ridge Lane intersection, was selected as the new infrastructure site.
Consultations were conducted with the councilors of the Fallings Park district and the local Member of Parliament before approval, in order to consider the community’s perspective.
Overall, this decision paves the way for better mobile connectivity in Wednesfield, providing residents with access to the latest technologies and contributing to the development of the area’s infrastructure.
