New LG Gaming Monitors Series with OLED Panels

LG has recently introduced a new series of gaming monitors with OLED panels, just in time for the holiday season. One of the key features of this five-model series is the LG UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE monitor, which introduces the “Dual-Hz” feature, providing gamers with greater flexibility. Unlike the original article that focused on resolution and refresh rate, the new article highlights the innovative Dual-Hz function. This feature allows gamers to smoothly switch between two different fluidity modes with a single button.

The LG UltraGear OLED 32GS95UE is the first gaming monitor to offer two customizable options for resolution and refresh rate. Gamers can seamlessly switch between 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) at 240 Hz and 1080p resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), which can achieve an impressive 480 Hz.

Although the lack of a DisplayPort 2.1 port may raise some controversy, it is worth noting that the current version, DisplayPort 1.4, does not support a 480 Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution. However, the monitor is equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port, which supports a 240 Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution, albeit with the dynamic range standard (SDR) and compressed flow using Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology.

LG recommends reserving the 4K/240Hz mode for solo and narrative games, while the 1080p/480Hz mode is suitable for competitive gaming. However, it is worth mentioning that a 1080p resolution on a monitor of this size may not provide a convincing visual experience for competitive gamers who prefer smaller screens with deliberate viewing angles.

In addition to the Dual-Hz feature, LG continues to utilize OLED technology in gaming monitors, boasting an almost instant gray-to-gray response time of 0.3 ms and support for VESA DisplayHDR™ True Black 400 certification for HDR. The monitors are also equipped with Nvidia G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technologies, providing variable refresh rates.

LG’s announcement includes five monitors, including the aforementioned 32-inch model, three ultra-wide models with a diagonal of 34 and 45 inches, and a 27-inch screen, which is currently the most popular diagonal size available. Although LG has not provided specific information regarding availability and prices, more details are expected to be revealed at the upcoming CES event starting on January 9, 2024, in Las Vegas.
