Pablo Felgueres and MaryLouise Howell were regularly receiving tickets for forgetting to move their vehicle on street cleaning days, accumulating at least 10 tickets within just seven months. In response, they created the “Street Cleaning Parking” app, which reminds users to change their parking location before the risk of receiving a ticket.
The app works by allowing users to input their parking spot and then sends them notifications: 45 minutes and 10 minutes before the time expires, reminding them to move their vehicle. Currently, the app is in the testing phase and focuses solely on street cleaning restrictions, without offering features related to parking meters and loading zones. However, Felgueres and Howell hope to expand the app’s capabilities as work progresses.
To create the app, the couple used available city data to obtain the street cleaning schedule for every street in San Francisco. After posting the app on Reddit, they garnered significant interest, earning over 1500 upvotes and 200 San Francisco residents signing up for the beta app testing. Felgueres plans to launch it on the Apple App Store next week, initially only for iPhones. While there are currently no plans to expand to Android phones, the couple remains open to possibilities.
The app will offer a free basic version and a paid premium version, costing between $3 and $5 per month. The premium version will provide additional features such as integration with Google Calendar, personalized time notifications, and the ability to inform others about available parking spots on the street. Additionally, Felgueres envisions the potential expansion of the app beyond San Francisco, with users expressing interest in bringing the app to cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Montreal.
