Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect Strengthen Partnership in the Agribusiness Sector

Ericsson and the Australian non-profit organization AgriBusiness Connect have bolstered their technological partnership to revolutionize the agribusiness sector and enhance industry value. The collaboration aims to leverage the capabilities of Ericsson’s 5G solutions to unlock the full potential of digitalization across the agricultural value chain.

By utilizing the high speed, low latency, and real-time data processing capabilities of 5G networks, Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect aim to accelerate the development of products and solutions that drive efficiency in agribusiness and related sectors. This partnership is crucial in ensuring Australia’s position as a leader in implementing Industry 4.0.

Formerly known as AgriFood Connect, AgriBusiness Connect is an incubator that supports Australian agribusinesses in addressing challenges related to digitalization, Net Zero, and the adoption of renewable energy. The collaboration with Ericsson will not only benefit agribusiness directly but also organizations involved in processing, packaging, storage, and transportation.

The partnership focuses not only on technological advancements but also on the development of educational and training programs for agribusiness employees. Moreover, efforts will be made to raise awareness among policymakers about the transformative potential of 5G in the agricultural value chain.

Grant Statton, CEO of AgriBusiness Connect, emphasizes the importance of the partnership, stating, “Given our market position, sector knowledge, and ecosystem of relationships, we have unique opportunities to experience the entire agribusiness value chain. This opens doors to creating tangible pathways to demonstrate the difference 5G can make in business, decarbonization, security, and the development of new high-value skills in the agribusiness sector.”

Emilio Romeo, Head of Ericsson in Australia and New Zealand, highlights Australia’s reputation as a pioneer in adopting new technologies and sees the partnership with AgriBusiness Connect as a catalyst for transformative 5G applications in the global agribusiness sector. He also emphasizes the importance of such collaborations alongside the government’s digitalization plans to ensure that industries, society, and citizens can quickly reap the benefits of 5G.

Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect already have an established collaboration, with the Ericsson Private 5G system already deployed at the AATLIS Queensland in AgTech & Logistics Hub. The aim of this partnership is to further develop this cooperation and drive innovation in the agribusiness sector.
