Apple Unveils Next-Generation CarPlay UI for Porsche and Aston Martin

Apple has introduced the next generation of its CarPlay user interface (UI) for luxury car manufacturers Porsche and Aston Martin. The new UI aims to completely transform the vehicle’s displays by integrating CarPlay with various features such as radio and temperature settings.

Porsche’s CarPlay setup features a unique three-dial layout, with the speedometer on the left and a wallpaper that matches the houndstooth seat pattern. Aston Martin’s layout, on the other hand, presents a media display in the center, with the speedometer and tachometer highlighted in the brand’s signature green color.

All driving-related data is delivered through the car’s sensors, while the connected iPhone runs the CarPlay apps. It’s important to note that Apple has emphasized that the phone does not store or track any vehicle-sourced information.

The announcement of the next-gen CarPlay UI took place at Apple’s WWDC developer conference in 2022, where they also introduced features such as pairing with specific car keys, a simplified connection flow, enhanced Siri functionality, and other improvements. Apple’s goal with CarPlay is to provide users with “the ultimate iPhone experience” while driving, surpassing traditional CarPlay overlays, Android Auto, and even built-in Google apps.

Aston Martin has confirmed that their upcoming infotainment system will support the new UI, starting with models like the DB12 and the convertible version, the DB12 Volante, which will be released next year. Porsche’s integration plans are not as clear, but according to a spokesperson, the all-electric Macan will feature an advanced system that takes their interface “one level further.” More details about Porsche’s plans will be revealed once the Macan is officially announced next year.
