Pocketpair, Inc. Rises to Fame with Controversial Game “Palworld”

Pocketpair, Inc., a Japanese game development company, released the game “Palworld” on early access last Thursday, which has already become a huge sensation while also attracting a fair amount of controversy.

The game, dubbed as “Pokémon with guns,” is set in an open world inhabited by animal-like creatures called “Pals.” Players can battle and capture these creatures to use them for base building, exploration, and combat.

According to IGN, within the first four days of early access, the game sold 6 million copies. But that’s not all, as just a few days after its release, “Palworld” became the second most popular game on the Steam platform.

This morning, the game achieved incredible results – 1,864,421 players simultaneously, surpassing a record held by Valve’s own game “Counter-Strike” and becoming the second most popular game in the history of Steam.

It only trails behind “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” (known as PUBG), which reached a peak of 3,257,248 players in 2018 when battle royale games were at their peak.

While it is unlikely that “Palworld” will reach such high levels of success, it certainly has room for further growth. The release has also been met with controversy, as Pocketpair reportedly received death threats due to accusations of copying Pokémon.

The game is currently available on the Steam, Windows, and Xbox platforms through Game Pass.
