Nowa karta Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super zawodzi na polu wydajności

After the impressive debut of the Nvidia RTX 4070 Super, I had high expectations for the RTX 4070 Ti Super model. Unfortunately, this second card turned out to be a disappointment.

Similar to previous Super models, the price of the RTX 4070 Ti Super card remains unchanged at $799. Unfortunately, the performance also remains at a similar level to the original RTX 4070 Ti version. Tests only showed a slight improvement of about 3% at 1440p resolution and about 5% at 4K. Nvidia promised a 10% increase, but something went wrong.

Just before the reviews were published, Nvidia revealed a problem with the cards that reviewers were testing. According to a Nvidia representative, the performance of the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16G Ventus 3X was about 5% lower than expected. The company provided a VBIOS update, but it did not make a significant difference in performance. The lack of access to other RTX 4070 Ti Super cards makes it difficult to make an accurate assessment, so we have to rely on the current experiences with this card.

I am disappointed that Nvidia did not prepare its own Founders Edition version of this new card. Just like with the original RTX 4070 Ti, I tested the MSI manufacturer’s model. While the custom cards offered by various partners do provide more options, Founders Edition versions are usually well-made and have an elegant design.

Even with the RTX 4070 Ti Super, the typical triple-fan design is used. The back of the card features three DisplayPort 1.4 ports and a single HDMI 2.1 port. The card is large, just like the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 versions, but the good news is the increased VRAM capacity of 16 GB compared to the original RTX 4070 Ti model. This means better future performance and the ability to play in 4K resolution.

Nvidia did not increase the power requirements either, so the RTX 4070 Ti Super draws the same 285 watts as its predecessor, which is 35 watts less than the RTX 4080. The manufacturer still recommends a 750-watt power supply. Efficient ATX 3.0 power supplies already have native support for the new PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR connector used by Nvidia. I also recommend using cables from third-party companies that allow avoiding a bulky power adapter, replacing two standard PCIe 8-pin connectors with the new 12-pin connector.

For testing at 1440p resolution, I used the latest AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor and a 32-inch Samsung G7 monitor. This monitor supports a screen refresh rate of up to 240 Hz and Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, making it a good test to check if any games can achieve the maximum refresh rate.

Comparing the RTX 4070 Ti Super to previous models such as the RTX 40-series, Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX, and earlier generation cards, test results in various games confirmed that most of them achieve an average frame rate comparable to or greater than 100 frames per second. The exception is Metro Exodus Enhanced in extreme mode, which is a performance test for most cards except the RTX 4090.

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is only slightly faster than the RTX 4070 Ti model. This is truly disappointing. There is practically no improvement compared to the previous card, and the only thing to expect here at 1440p resolution is the 16 GB VRAM. It is clear that owners of the RTX 4070 Ti will definitely not want to switch to this model, but I hoped that Nvidia would fulfill its promises and provide a greater performance improvement. It is possible that future VBIOS updates will bring improvements, but for now, that’s the situation with the MSI model we tested. Third-party cards may achieve the expected 10% performance increase.
