According to the recent leak from Insomniac Games, the creation of one of Sony’s latest productions, Spider-Man 2, cost over 300 million dollars. As a result, developers need to find ways to save budgets, which often means offering smaller titles.
Jim Ryan and other representatives of PlayStation have confirmed that there are no plans to introduce a model where new AAA games would be available in the PS Plus subscription from the moment of release. According to documents from Insomniac Games, the sales of Horizon Forbidden West significantly declined when Sony decided to add the title to the PS Plus library.
The game, which was originally supposed to be sold, was made available to subscribers in the second year after its release. Sony hoped to generate a profit of $124 million, but in reality, they only managed to generate $35 million. The corporation experienced a loss of $85 million in revenue because players chose the version available in PS Plus.
Although Horizon Forbidden West proved to be a success, selling over 8.4 million copies, Sony still aimed for higher income. Therefore, we cannot expect the company to suddenly change its mind and offer its games on release in the PS Plus subscription.
