Apple is working on a new telephoto lens technology in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

According to sources, Apple is reportedly working on integrating a telephoto lens with tetrakprismatic technology in its upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. The company released the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max earlier this year, with the latter featuring an improved telephoto lens and the ability for 5x optical zoom.

A report from MacRumors, citing anonymous sources, suggests that Apple plans to introduce a new telephoto lens with tetrakprismatic technology in both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in 2024. The compact structure of the glass allows for a fourfold reflection of light in high-end models, resulting in improved optical zoom similar to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Interestingly, there are speculations that the larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro models may accommodate an improved telephoto camera in a smaller version. However, integrating this camera technology has posed a challenge for Apple due to spatial constraints, which is why only the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max was equipped with a telephoto camera with a tetrakprismatic lens this year.

Recent reports also suggest that Apple plans to increase the display sizes of both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, compared to 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches in previous models. Furthermore, internal documentation indicates similarities in the tetrakprismatic module and camera design between the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

It is still unclear whether Apple plans to use the same camera setup for both iPhone 16 Pro models, following the configuration of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Ming-Chi Kuo, an industry analyst from TF Securities, previously claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro will be equipped with this advanced camera technology.

While eagerly awaiting more information and official confirmation from Apple, technology enthusiasts can expect exciting advancements in the camera capabilities of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models.
