Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect: Accelerating Digitization in the Agri-Food Sector in Australia

Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect have established a new partnership aimed at accelerating the process of digitization and innovation in the agri-food sector in Australia. This collaboration seeks to harness the opportunities offered by Ericsson’s 5G solutions to create new value throughout the agricultural value chain.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the partners will focus on utilizing the high speed, low latency, and real-time data processing capabilities of Ericsson’s 5G technology to develop innovative solutions that enhance productivity and efficiency in the agricultural sector and related industries. The ultimate goal is to ensure that Australia remains a leader in adopting Industry 4.0-related technologies.

AgriBusiness Connect, formerly known as AgriFood Connect, is an incubator supporting agriculture and the broader agri-food sector in adapting to the challenges of digitization, renewable energy, and achieving zero-emissions. The partnership with Ericsson will benefit not only direct stakeholders in the agri-food industry but also organizations involved in processing, packaging, storage, and transportation.

The collaboration will also focus on providing education and training for current employees in the agricultural industry and raising awareness among policymakers about the transformative potential of 5G technology in agricultural value chains.

Grant Statton, CEO of AgriBusiness Connect, emphasizes the importance of the partnership in driving innovation and meeting the needs of the agri-food industry. He states that “through our market position, sector knowledge, and ecosystem of relationships, we have unique opportunities to coordinate actions across the agricultural value chain. This paves the way for Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect to create specific pathways that demonstrate the difference 5G technology can make for business, decarbonization, security, and the development of new high-income skills in the agri-food sector.”

Emilio Romeo, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand, highlights Australia’s reputation as a global leader in adopting new technologies. He believes that this collaboration has the potential to create new use cases for 5G technology that can transform value chains in the agri-food industry worldwide.

The partnership between Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect builds upon their previous collaboration in deploying Ericsson’s Private 5G system at the AgTech & Logistics Hub in Queensland. With their combined knowledge and focus on digitization, this new partnership has the potential to usher the agri-food sector into the digital era.
