According to the “State of the Game Industry” report from GDC (Game Developers Conference) in 2024, it has been revealed that eight percent of the respondents are currently working on projects dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2. Out of the 3,000 participants, this amounts to 240 responses.

Recently, Nintendo issued a statement vehemently denying various reports suggesting the company’s investment in the development of an inevitable successor to the Switch.

During this year’s GDC, developers were presented with the hardware capabilities of the Switch 2. As reported by Eurogamer, an enhanced demo version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was showcased at Gamescom in Cologne in August, specifically tailored to demonstrate the improved technology of the Switch 2.

Additionally, Nintendo also denied rumors that it shared details about the Switch 2 with major publishers at the end of 2022. This information came to light through an email from former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, who publicly stated this during a legal proceeding last year.

In a November interview with Nintendo, the company dismissed reports of the Switch 2 as “rumors.”

The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected in 2024.

The impact of layoffs in the gaming industry was strongly emphasized in this year’s GDC survey, with a third of the respondents stating that they had experienced layoffs in their companies.
