Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect Join Forces to Support the Agricultural Sector

Ericsson and AgriBusiness Connect, a non-profit organization based in Australia, have partnered to strengthen the agricultural sector. Through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the partners intend to leverage Ericsson’s 5G solutions to enhance productivity and efficiency throughout the agricultural value chain.

The collaboration will involve the use of high speed, low latency, and real-time data processing capabilities through Ericsson’s 5G technology to develop innovative solutions that optimize supply chains, field operations, production, and distribution. The goal is to reinforce Australia’s position as a leader in adopting Industry 4.0 technologies in the agribusiness sector.

AgriBusiness Connect, formerly known as AgriFood Connect, is an incubator established in 2021 to support the agribusiness industry and the broader digital industry. The organization also focuses on promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources and achieving Net Zero goals.

The partnership extends beyond direct market participants and includes organizations supporting the agricultural sector in processing, packaging, storage, and transportation. The partners will also prioritize educational and training initiatives for agribusiness employees and raise awareness among policymakers about the transformative potential of 5G in agricultural value chains.

Ericsson is actively involved in AgriBusiness Connect and the AgTech & Logistics Hub in the AATLIS precinct in Toowoomba, Queensland. As part of this collaboration, a private Ericsson 5G network was deployed in partnership with Telstra in 2022.

Grant Statton, CEO of AgriBusiness Connect, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that their market position, industry knowledge, and network of relationships are unique assets for driving innovation throughout the agribusiness value chain. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with Ericsson will pave the way for tangible progress in business efficiency, decarbonization, security, and the development of highly valued skills in the agribusiness sector.

Emilio Romeo, Ericsson’s Head of Australia and New Zealand, praised Australia’s leading role in embracing technological advancements and highlighted the partnership’s potential to revolutionize the global agribusiness value chain. Romeo emphasized the importance of such collaborations, aligning with the government’s digitalization plans, to ensure that companies, industries, and society as a whole can benefit from 5G technology as quickly as possible.
