Polish Gaming Market Continues to Thrive, But Physical Releases are Becoming Obsolete

The situation in the Polish gaming market in 2023 looked similar to previous years. According to the latest report published by GamesIndustry.biz, the sales of physical game copies are almost non-existent. Statistical data shows that only 5% of games sold in Poland were in physical form, generating a revenue of $9.5 billion.

In comparison to digital games, which achieved slightly better results and contributed to a revenue of $174.5 billion, physical game releases experienced a decline in sales. In the case of PC games, as much as 99% of revenue was generated through digital sales, while physical releases accounted for only 17% of the market share.

Although the gaming market achieved similar results compared to the previous year, generating a revenue of $184 billion, it is worth noting that these data were based on statistics up until November. The biggest bestseller in Poland was the title “Dziedzictwo Hogwartu” (English: “Hogwarts Legacy”), which also gained popularity in the United Kingdom and the United States.

However, despite its sales success, not all games had an equally large media presence. Titles such as “Starfield” and “Diablo 4” garnered more press attention than “Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”. This is not surprising considering that the “Grand Theft Auto 6” trailer attracted the most attention in 2023.

It seems that the gaming market in Poland is still thriving, but there is an increasing emphasis on digital distribution. Physical game releases are slowly becoming obsolete, bringing in decreasing revenues for the video game industry.
