The RAZ Memory Cell Phone will enable individuals with speech disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, to speak in their own voice and be fully understood during video phone calls. This new speech recognition technology has been developed by Voiceitt, an artificial intelligence and machine learning company, in collaboration with RAZ Mobility. It also has the potential to assist individuals with mild cognitive impairment, dementia, visual impairment, speech disability after a stroke, hand tremors, and older adults who prefer easy operation.
“The collaboration between Voiceitt and RAZ Mobility has the potential to help many individuals with Parkinson’s disease who have experienced a stroke or have other conditions affecting their speech,” said Rick Robinson, VP, and Executive Director of AgeTech Collaborative at AARP, in a press statement. Voiceitt and RAZ Mobility actively participate in the AgeTech Collaborative at AARP and benefit from its initiatives and support.
Parkinson’s disease is most well-known for its motor symptoms, such as tremors, slow movement (bradykinesia), balance impairment, and muscle stiffness. Individuals with this disease may also experience non-motor symptoms, including depression, anxiety, sleep problems, fatigue, and cognitive impairment.
Additionally, neurodegenerative disorders can affect the facial, oral, and throat muscles used for speaking, which can worsen as the disease progresses. As a result, patients may experience speech disorders such as speaking softly, in a monotone, difficulty speaking clearly, mumbling, or speaking too fast, resulting in stuttering-like speech.
Recent studies suggest that changes in the electrical activity of a specific brain region may play a role in these speech difficulties associated with Parkinson’s disease.
The Voiceitt application immediately transforms problematic speech into clear and understandable language, aiming to improve accessibility for individuals with atypical speech patterns. Instead of relying on writing or touch symbols for telecommunication, older adults and individuals with speech disorders can now use their natural voice and still be effectively understood.
RAZ Memory Cell Phone enhances accessibility
RAZ Mobility predicts that the phone will enhance individual independence and overall well-being, providing greater access to education, employment, healthcare, and entertainment. Voiceitt also integrates with various applications such as smart devices, voice assistants, telemedicine platforms, and video conferencing tools.
The phone can be remotely controlled by caregivers from anywhere in the United States or Canada through remote management features and the RAZ Care app.
“The integration of this technology in the RAZ Memory Cell Phone revolutionizes how individuals with speech disabilities communicate through telecommunication,” the company wrote in its statement.
