Apple Pay Faces Temporary Service Disruption, but Some Users Remain Unaffected

Apple’s suite of financial services, including Apple Pay, Apple Cash, Apple Card, and Wallet, experienced a brief interruption earlier today, as reported on the company’s System Status page. While the full extent of the disruptions is still unknown, intermittent issues with Apple Pay have been reported in the past.

Interestingly, despite the disruption, some users were able to use Apple Pay without any complications during this period. For instance, one user successfully made a pick-up order at Starbucks using Apple Pay around 9 AM ET.

Since its debut in 2014, Apple Pay and other contactless payment methods have gradually gained traction in the United States. Nowadays, most major retailers offer the convenience of tapping your phone or Apple Watch to make payments, with only a few exceptions like Home Depot.

According to an update from Apple, the service disruptions have now been resolved as of December 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM ET. Users should once again be able to access and utilize all affected services as usual.
