A study conducted by MedUX, a company specializing in network testing and performance evaluation, confirms that EE (BT) is the leader in 5G networks in London. The study evaluated the four major mobile operators – EE (BT), O2 (VMO2), Vodafone, and Three UK – and found that EE outperforms the competition in most parameters.
The research, based on a robust methodology consisting of 88,311 radio samples and 11,833 tests conducted in the third quarter of 2023, assessed various elements crucial to the quality and coverage of 5G services in the UK capital. The report, titled “5G QoE Benchmarking for London,” provides a comprehensive evaluation of 5G service user quality, measuring factors such as availability, internet access, speed, streaming, and use of OTT services (over-the-top).
EE proved to be the leader, offering the highest 5G network registration rate (92% of the time) and the most reliable user experience (99.6% service reliability). The operator excelled in areas such as availability, website navigation, gaming, and video streaming. With 22,709 radio samples and 3,040 tests conducted on its network, EE achieved impressive results, ensuring excellent service quality for customers, fast video content loading, smooth use of social media and OTT services, outstanding gaming experiences, and fast download speeds of up to 800 Mbps.
In terms of speed, Vodafone ranked first in 5G download speed category, scoring 87%, slightly ahead of EE. Meanwhile, Three UK demonstrated exceptional data transmission performance with a maximum speed of 157 Mbps. O2, on the other hand, ranked first for the most reliable DNS solution, achieving a score of 92% in this category.
Despite these positive results, the report highlights that London lags behind other European cities. However, MedUX plans to publish a more detailed report on the European situation in the first half of February, which will provide a more comprehensive picture of the implementation and experiences of 5G across the continent.
