Samsung has presented an innovative concept for a foldable phone, the Flip In & Out Flex, at the CES 2024 trade show. This device visualizes the future of flexible phones that can fold, bend, and adjust to our needs. The most interesting feature of this concept is the ability to fold in both directions and even completely backwards, allowing users to utilize the 6.7-inch screen even when the phone is closed.
One side of the Flip In & Out Flex phone is slightly shorter than the other when folded backwards, so as not to obstruct the camera. The larger side provides sufficient space for several icons in the quick settings menu, media playback control, as well as displaying the time and battery level. Although the concept was not available for public interaction, it offered a glimpse into the future of Samsung’s foldable phone line, potentially making it more versatile and useful.
Despite smartphones like the Galaxy Z Flip 5 having a large external screen, the Flip In & Out Flex concept offers a more seamless experience with a single screen that can be used both when the phone is open and closed. However, since the concept is not currently a product, it is uncertain whether this innovative design will be realized.
Samsung also conducted a series of tests to ensure the durability of the Flip In & Out Flex concept. The device was subjected to extreme temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius, as well as impact tests such as bouncing basketballs off its foldable panels.
The company also showcased other flexible screen concepts at CES, such as the Flex Liple, a prototype of a foldable phone with a curved screen around the top edge, and the Rollable Flex, which can expand its screen up to five times its original size. Additionally, Samsung unveiled new high-resolution displays for mixed reality headset sets.
Overall, Samsung’s Flip In & Out Flex concept is another step towards a more flexible and adaptive future for smartphones. Although it is currently just a concept, its innovative design and potential to revolutionize the way we use mobile phones generate excitement and anticipation for Samsung’s future advancements.
