History
The city of Repelón was founded on June 9, 1671, by Juan Díaz de los Ríos, along with around 38 settlers who came from the nearby Yucalí. Initially, the settlement was called Nueva Sevilla but was renamed Repelón in 1842. The name of the city comes from the Spanish word “repelar,” which meant “to repel” or “to drive away” at that time.
