Huawei has played a significant role in the market for foldable smartphones with its Huawei Mate X model. However, many brands have now joined this segment, creating competition for the Chinese brand. That is why Huawei intends to maintain its presence in this specific category. Last year, Huawei released two models with horizontal foldable screens, the Huawei Mate X3 and Huawei Mate X5. It has been some time since the release of the last model with a vertical foldable screen, the Huawei Pocket S, which debuted in 2022. However, that is about to change as the company prepares to launch the Huawei Pocket 2. Today, thanks to image leaks, the appearance of this foldable smartphone has been revealed.
Huawei Pocket 2 will be available in three color variants: Pure Black, Dark Purple with a leather texture, and Rococo White with a marble finish. The device will have several similarities to its predecessors. For example, the rear panel will feature two circles. The first circle will house the camera modules, while the second will include the external display. Huawei P50 Pocket and Pocket S had a round OLED display with a 1.04-inch screen size and a resolution of 340 x 340 pixels.
As for the first circle, it will serve as the camera function. We can expect to find three lenses there, although the exact arrangement in the Huawei Pocket 2 remains unclear. In the case of its predecessors, the P50 Pocket and Pocket S, the main camera had a 40 MP resolution, and the wide-angle lens was 13 MP. Additionally, the P50 was equipped with a third module with a resolution of 32 MP, which worked in the ultraviolet range and was used for sun exposure testing. We expect Huawei to introduce some improvements in the Huawei Pocket 2.
The Huawei Pocket 2 is expected to be unveiled around the same time as the upcoming Huawei P70 series. Considering that the P60 series was launched in March last year, we should not be far from the debut of the P70 series. Similar to the Huawei P70 series, the Huawei Pocket 2 is likely to be equipped with the latest Kirin 9000 chip and the standard edition of the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system.
