BorgWarner i FinDreams: partnerstwo dla technologii Blade Battery

BorgWarner has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with FinDreams Battery, a subsidiary of BYD.

Under the agreement, BorgWarner will be responsible for producing LFP battery packs for commercial vehicles using FinDreams Battery’s Blade Battery cells. The production will take place in Europe, America, and selected regions in Asia and the Pacific. The agreement is set to last for 8 years.

BorgWarner has collaborated with FinDreams Battery to implement the Blade Battery technology into the production of LFP battery packs. This technology was unveiled during the Busworld Europe 2023 exhibition as part of the B2 platform for BYD electric buses.

Previously, BorgWarner acquired the German battery module manufacturer Akasol. Akasol supplies battery modules to major bus manufacturers such as Volvo Buses and Daimler Buses. While it has primarily worked with NMC chemistry, BorgWarner has also added LFP chemistry to its portfolio. Andreas Vath, Manager of Advanced and Application Development to Sustainable Bus at BorgWarner, explains that the energy density of LFP batteries has significantly increased, although it is still about 20% lower than NMC batteries.

As part of the agreement, BorgWarner will receive a license from FinDreams Battery to utilize its intellectual property related to battery pack design and production.

Frédéric Lissalde, President and CEO of BorgWarner, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that LFP technology is becoming increasingly important globally due to its cost competitiveness. They have observed increased demand from customers for battery packs with LFP cells and believe that FinDreams Battery is the right company to collaborate with in this area, given their 20 years of experience and success in LFP batteries for the mobility sector in China and Europe. They are excited to work together to develop advanced cell and battery pack technology to further electrify this market segment.

Micheal He, President and CEO of FinDreams Battery, added that the partnership with BorgWarner provides diverse and flexible options for foreign customers by locally manufacturing battery packs using FinDreams Battery’s Blade Battery cells. They aim to accelerate the electrification of the foreign commercial vehicle market.
